SUMMARY:International Dark Sky Week
DESCRIPTION:International Dark Sky Week\, taking place April 4–11\, 2026\, raises awareness about light pollution and the importance of preserving natural night skies. In the Cumberland Gap region\, dark skies enhance wildlife behavior\, protect nocturnal ecosystems\, and provide spectacular opportunities for stargazing along trails. The Cumberland Gap area is just about 100 miles from the Obed Wild and Scenic River\, a designated International Dark Sky Park\, highlighting the region’s potential for enjoying truly dark night skies. Through responsible lighting practices\, trail stewardship\, and educational outreach\, the Cumberland Gap Trail Alliance helps protect these nightscapes while connecting the community to the natural rhythms of the Appalachian environment.
