National Public Lands Day

September 26

National Public Lands Day, observed on September 26, 2026, is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort dedicated to improving and enjoying public lands. In the Cumberland Gap region, this includes national and state parks, forests, rivers, and trails that provide recreation, wildlife habitat, and scenic beauty. The Cumberland Gap Trail Alliance participates by organizing volunteer trail workdays, habitat restoration projects, and community events—helping maintain and enhance the region’s public lands so they remain accessible, healthy, and enjoyable for everyone.
