Amphibian Week

May 3May 9

Amphibian Week, observed May 3–9, 2026, celebrates amphibians like frogs, salamanders, and newts while raising awareness about their importance in healthy ecosystems and the threats they face. In the Cumberland Gap region, wetlands, rivers, streams, and forested areas provide critical habitats for these species, supporting biodiversity and maintaining balanced ecosystems. The Cumberland Gap Trail Alliance helps protect amphibian habitats by preserving natural areas along trails, promoting responsible recreation, and educating the public about the region’s unique wildlife—ensuring that amphibians and other native species continue to thrive.
