World Wetlands Day

February 2

World Wetlands Day, observed on February 2, 2026, highlights the importance of wetlands in protecting water quality, reducing flooding, and supporting wildlife. In the Cumberland Gap region, wetlands connected to the Powell and Clinch Rivers, as well as Norris and Cherokee Lakes, play a critical role in maintaining healthy ecosystems and scenic landscapes. These waters and surrounding wetlands enhance trail experiences, support outdoor recreation, and reinforce the Cumberland Gap Trail Alliance’s commitment to conservation, stewardship, and environmental education.
